HEY YOU GUYS!!!
It is time for me to do MY book giveaway! I’ll bet you were all thinking that I was never going to give away a copy of the book I wrote – HA! I fooled you! Not only are we giving away a copy of The Edible Front Yard, my lovely publisher, Timber Press, has generously added a copy of the Sugarsnaps and Strawberries (written by the amazing Andrea Bellamy of Heavy Petal) to the mix! And that isn’t ALL! The fabulous folks at GrowOrganic.com, the online home of Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply, have created a special custom seed collection inspired by the “Supermodels” of ornamental edibles that I list in my book! 20 packets of gorgeous, certified organic, non-GMO seeds were donated – thank you Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply (find them online at GrowOrganic.com)! The coolest, sexiest, warm AND cool season Supermodels Seeds will be sashaying their way around some lucky winner’s front yard – How awesome is THAT? And then there is a special present from me – a framed cartoon that I drew with my very own hands, depicting a few of the beauties that were making their presence known in my garden this year – before I ATE THEM!
So here we go! Leave your comments and in one week, we will have a winner! Go crazy with your comments – woo me! The winner will be chosen randomly, but still – woo me! I like to be flattered and purred over, and I want to know how you plan on using this treasure chest of goodies should you win!
MEOW!

Good stuff!
” Woo me”
Well….You ARE the best Germanatrix .( Goes without saying, but you said to
Nobody else starts ‘em like that. Will you discipline the seeds, before they’re sent on their way?
Mikeinportc – those seeds will be firmly taken in hand! They will be the best behaved, most obedient seeds ever grown – *wink*
I would LOVE to read the books and plant the seeds in my front yard. Actually, since our lot backs up to a golf course, both front and back yards are treated as front yards — should be attractive for passers-by and for golfers to see, as well as pleasing us. It would be fun to use your prize in my front yard(s)!
OMG Kitty Cat! Found you on Facebook and this just whispers too me! We have recently moved into a house that sat for 2 yrs.. yeah 2 long years of neglect! We are trying so hard to get the yard the house the landscaping and the garden in edible condition.. its hard work. We have 2 crazy wee ones and some non laying chickens. I see your wonderful offerings and hope that someday I can read your words and plant your seeds of wisdom in out homestead. It is oh so needed. Had a pitiful and sad garden this year and just don’t want to give up on it. See my little ones run from plant to plant and tasting what was there keeps my hopes alive for a more successful one next year.. Please Help!
My sister Katie had your link on her FB page….couldn’t pass up looking. I am now adding you to my bookmarks. I’ve only slowly begun expanding my vegetable gardens and now am including fruit and chickens. I feel and think the less I have to mow and the more I can use to harvest my own organically produce etc the better. Would love a chance to read your book and use it to change the front yard into an oasis of mixed native perennials and edibles. Your pic of you harvesting herbs reminds me of when I get to run out to the garden to snip some chives or basil…Lovely!!!!! Thanks for all the great tips!!!
I need to get something going in the front yard. Right now I have this jungle like bush from Catalina, some Mexican sage, and some milkweed. A lot of chips. If I grow veggies, what’s to keep the neighbors from nabbing them? I should grow something that is obscure and doesn’t look edible or illegal. Whatever is grown must look cool to my 15y.o. daughter. Does such exist?
I would love to plant front yard gardens in my cul-de-sac at all the vacant trashed out rental properties that I have to look at everyday when I go out my front door. Of course; I would add to my front yard garden; too. I am serious; I’ve been talking about this for years and this have drawing has been the catalyst to put my words down in print. I just need some further direction from your fine book and seeds to plant!
These fabulous goodies would kick-start me to (try to) create the amazing garden I’ve been dreaming about!
Oh that looks amazing!
You book looks/sounds fantastic! We’re in the process of transitioning my sister’s yard to completely edible.
We started converting our front yard into edible last year.
~wow!~such a giveaway! my wee patch in the front yard would give thanks to have such greening help. approximately 8 ft. x 8 ft., with a slope to one corner & horrid drainage in another, it has micro-climates in a micro-space!
Oh wow, I would LOVE this. We just recently moved into our house and I am looking forward to getting good use out of the yard. It’s my dream to grow as much food as possible.
YES Please! How Wonderful!
I we built our current home 5 years ago, and edible landscaping has been my goal from the get go. What a wonderful gift you give in both your knowledge and in your giveaways! I would LOVE to win this and expand the small gardens I have!
I LOVE this idea. I’m in an eternal battle with my husband. He wants grass he neglects to mow (and I’m not happy doing it during the day when I’m home with our small kids). I want a magic garden my kids can explore and play in. Having it be edible plants would be even better. Right now I stick edible plants here and there, wherever I can find room. I would love to have them take over the whole yard.
I want an edible front yard! I want to get your book now too. It looks great!
I would love to win this! I already grow a bit in my flower bed, but would love to have more ideas. These books would be great in my home library. I love my gardening books. I read them over again every winter while planning my gardens. I have a feeling that your book would becomes an invaluable resource at my house!
Our block party is coming up and my idea would be to talk to all the neighbors about how we can all add some edibles to our front yards. It would bring people out into their front yards more and encourage sharing of produce between neighbors. We have a great block already but I think it could be even better.
Wow, what a package! My front hall has just the spot for your drawing, too!
Awesome!! What a great promotion! This would be perfect for my front yard and then when all the neighbors walk by and ask “Oh my gosh, look at how beautiful your yard is” I can respond “Oh, I got this book let helped me do it all, let me write the title down for you…”
The books would be great … but, the seeds are awesome – perfect for both my front and back yards which I try to make as natural looking as possible by planting wildflowers (annual and perennial), using old tree limbs as edging, and recyclng “trashed bricks and other goodies. Planting edibles in my front yard would increase the area in the backyard I’ve already designated for veggies. Being a senior on a limited income and having a substantial veggie garden helps stretch my food dollars.
This would be perfect timing as we proceed to make our front yard edible and pretty!
Love how fun and playful all of your pictures and comments are, I have the same philosophy about gardens, I fee they are to be lived in, played in, and not just left as static art. We have a city garden plot where we have been playing with all kinds of heirloom seeds we ordered out the garden ‘porn’ catalogs we get. So much fun seeing what comes up and then we can try it out in our client’s gardens. We have four all organic kitchen gardens and they love trying new experimental vegis, and fruit trees. I learned all about Sapotes, so cool. Would love to have the book for reference and the vegis to munch on.
This is exactly what I want to do with our whole front, back and side yards. I have two strawberry barrels in the front yard, with asparagus tucked in and a raspberry plant and two peach trees as of this last year, and we are in process of putting ideas onto paper for the next step. The pictures and ideas you have posted make me hungry to explore your book. We also grow things indoors too. The next adventure will be a banana and an avocado bush indoors. Your herb garden looks simply luscious! We are also beginning to save seeds from our heirloom tomatoes and broccoli plants for the future. Your prize is perfect for my husband and I as gardening is our passion.
Just fenced off a BIG garden area, and this prize would be SO awesome to help me get started!! Keep up the great work!
My front yard is so plain and boring, could use some loving… Plus I could use some learning, new to gardening.
Mama like and Mama NEED! Can’t wait to put my brown thumb to use on kiling my lawn and then use all your sage wisdom to bring it back to a productive life. Teach me your agrimancer ways! Necromancer-Agrimancer…get it.
So much land to fill. I have five acres of grass. ICK!! I’m hoping to fill most of it with gardens. This would be a great way to help me get started on this HUGE project.
I would love to learn more about front yard gardens, or any for that matter. We live on a fixed income and fresh produce is hard to afford and our lot isn’t that big. It would be a wonderful bday prezzie too, LOL. It would also be great to get rid of the grass and replace with something better. Thanks for this opportunity!
I encourage people to plant edible plants and flowers all the time. (I am a placer county master gardener) saw this link and it was like following the yellow brick road (wizard of oz) THANK YOU for sharing and the opportunity to win your book…
What a great giveaway! I was inspired by your ideas to start my own edible front yard! Thanks for the inspiration! Good luck all!
OOOH! Pick me! Pick me!! I so appreciate your blog, would love to have copies of your books so it’d be like having you right here in my garden helping me to plant those lovely seeds! Thanks for what you do and encouraging the rest of us! (pick me! pick me!) : )
My ultimate goal is to start an edible yard revolution, looks like we are one the “same page” (pun intended)!
Wow! I saw a post on Yarden and had to stop by. Your herb harvest is beautiful. I’d love to be entered in your contest. I am blessed with a large backyard and a small shared front yard; so the garden is in back. For years, I’ve loved to put a few flowers and herbs in every vegetable bed. I try for at least 5 plant varieties per planting area (weeds count if it’s not invasive and I don’t know what else to fill the gap) It looks like the seed packs above have some things I’ve never tried…. hmmmm….. interesting. And the picture would be lovely in my new ‘office’.
would happily use these ornamaental edibles to fill out the blank spots in my gardens
Woo, woo. I would love this! Thanks for the offer.
Oh pick me! What an awesome book! I am gathering ideas and plans and books to start my garden this spring….in Vegas!! That’s right! I am going to attempt to grow living things in the desert. I love Timber Press and would love your book! Thanks!
I plan on creating an edibe garden to enhance my cooking! Would love to win!!
I would love to have this set to help in expanding my gardens.
Very generous of you! We just bought our first house and are still figuring out landscaping, especially the edible part of it. We planted catnip and our cats ate it all. We planted tomatoes and our neighborhood raccoon posse at them all. We’re working on it, but your book would help!
As soon as my retaining wall is installed in my front yard, the native and edible garden goes in. Crossing my fingers to be the winner here! Thank you for the opportunity!
Love your pictures, love the idea! I run two donation gardens in IL, where we garden with kids and donate the organic veggies & herbs to a local food pantry. I love the idea of your book and would willingly change every front yard to something useful!
I would love to win your book, I’ve looked it over a few times @ the bookstore but haven’t been able to purchase it as of yet. Been waiting for the summer heat to cool down so I could tear out what I have in the front yard and put an edible garden there…I was picturing artichokes with lemongrass and chard, herbs all over, and runner beans up a trellis. I’m sure if I had your book I could think of some better ideas. Thanks for the opportunity to win!!
How wonderful! The whole package seems so inspiring!! Thank you:)
