check out this PRIZE! who's gonna win? I'm so EXCITED!

HEY YOU GUYS!!!

It is time for me to do MY book giveaway! I’ll bet you were all thinking that I was never going to  give away a copy of the book I wrote – HA! I fooled you! Not only are we giving away a copy of The Edible Front Yard, my lovely publisher, Timber Press, has generously added a copy of the Sugarsnaps and Strawberries (written by the amazing Andrea Bellamy of Heavy Petal) to the mix! And that isn’t ALL! The fabulous folks at GrowOrganic.com, the online home of Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply, have created a special custom seed collection inspired by the “Supermodels” of ornamental edibles that I list in my book! 20 packets of gorgeous, certified organic, non-GMO seeds were donated – thank you Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply (find them online at GrowOrganic.com)! The coolest, sexiest, warm AND cool season Supermodels Seeds will be sashaying their way around some lucky winner’s front yard – How awesome is THAT? And then there is a special present from me – a framed cartoon that I drew with my very own hands, depicting a few of the beauties that were making their presence known in my garden this year – before I ATE THEM!

an image of my garden from The Edible Front Yard - pretty pics in this book, if I do say so myself!

So here we go! Leave your comments and in one week, we will have a winner! Go crazy with your comments – woo me! The winner will be chosen randomly, but still – woo me! I like to be flattered and purred over, and I want to know how you plan on using this treasure chest of goodies should you win!

  1. OOH! This would really help along my front-yard redesign slated for this fall! :)

  2. Lori Rogers says:

I love gardening, I just started mostly to grow things my chickens & guinea pigs eat! I would love to win!!!!

  3. It would be awesome to win the pack to have both the books to read & try out the seeds written about. I would most likely share the seeds & also the books with a friend of mine so we could both benefit from it. It would be great to see pictures of the yard talked about on FB and also to compare & contrast what works in CA versus what works in our gardens here in OH. By the way – those herbs look awesome – what were you cutting them to make?

  4. meocuenca says:

very neat, it would give us a great start – how do we apply? thanks!!!

  5. Ooo … of course I already have your wonderful book, but I’d love to have all the rest — and I can give the book away to someone over on my site :D

    (sugarsnaps are my favorite!!)

  6. I feel like my endless supply of okra…Pick me! Pick me! Giggles I am a confirmed heirloom gardener who should be canning instead of playing on the internet. Better get back at it!

  7. Meocuena – you have already applied, just by commenting! The winner will be picked randomly on 8/18/2011 – GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! (I am so excited I can hardly STAND IT!!!)

  8. Patricia Emery says:

Ooohh….. been waiting for a chance like THIS! My good friend and I are wanting to turn an empty city lot that she owns into an edible garden – right on MAINSTREET!!! With your help, we can DO IT!!!

  9. I would love a little extra loot and treasures!

  10. Oh so lovely!!! I’ve been following you on Facebook and saw your feature in Sunset…..which I subscribe to even though I live in Virginia (former Bay Area resident). It would be great to win so I could read your book and get inspired to tear out the final ugly patch of sod in front of my townhouse. The neighborhood kids would learn by watching me plant edibles!! How cool is that?!

  11. This would help with the planning next spring for my new front yard!

  12. I already have a copy of your book. It is so beautiful and inspiring!! But I would LOVE to have another copy to gift to a friend, and all of the other wonderful loot! The framed drawing would make a lovely edition to my home :-) .

  13. I would love to win this! I recently redid my back garden, and soon it will be time to start on the front. I’d love to be able to incorporate some of your ideas into that!

  14. I love your site. You are truly inspirational. I’m working on a redo for my front yard to include more of these beautiful edibles! Thank you.

  15. Wow – what a great contest! I’d love to win your book – it has been on my amazon wishlist ever since it came out!!

  16. Margaret Lanphier says:

Oh I love the pictures of the garden! And neat loot! _want_ ;-)

  17. Awesome! I’ve been stalking this book for a while and would love to win :)

  18. How exciting it must be to have a book published. Did you do some jumping up and down when it first came out? I’ve been converting the front yard to garden while carefully avoiding issues with the city. I’ve decided that if I plant things that are unusual enough they won’t know the plants are food and I won’t get a citation. Right?

  19. Laurie Meyerpeter says:

I want books! I want seeds! But most of all I want the picture!!!

  20. Lynette L. Walther says:

This is a revolution that may just shake up gardens for good. Lead on, oh Fearless Leader! Show us the way, so legions of gardeners can put those gardens to work and make them count like never before.

Show us the beauty in vegetables and help us see them as part of the scheme. We await with quivering cultivators and compliant compost.

  21. You are a total inspiration! I love spreading the word about being more self-sufficient too! Can never have too many gardeners in this world! :)

  22. I would LOVE to win! This gift pack has everything I need to transform my front yard.

  23. Yeee! What an exciting give away! My new home has a garden in the back yard! :F

  24. I’m just learning how to work edibles into my front yard. I need to totally revamp it. I’m growing chard this year and loving it, I definitely want to add it next to my zinnias!

  25. Megan Schlegel says:

I would love to win this. We are in the middle of redoing our front yard and coule really use it!

  26. I’m steadily increasing the edibles in my garden, especially in the front. One day, we’ll be able to eat plants from both yards!

  27. This is so exciting…absolutely wonderful giveaway items! You are always an inspiration and delighting us with your garden and adventuring. Makes us all want to be you! I know exactly what I would be doing with all that stuff if it became mine win…I’d be sharing it with others who haven not yet gotten the edible gardening flu! Yes yes yes…that is what I’d do!

  28. This would be a total kickstarter for my plans to transform the front lawn into an edible garden. I flipped through the book on my last visit to the bookstore and absolutely can’t wait to get my hands on a copy! It was just what I was waiting for- a book that that not only talked about growing food in the front lawn, but a way to do it beautifully!

  29. What a wonderful giveaway!!

I am the garden coordinator and President of our school board. We started a school garden and it is very little. I was a helper last year, but am taking over the program this year. EXCITED!
Our school is very small (60 kids) and programs like the garden are funded and done by volunteer parents.

So, with that said, anything won would be donated to the school garden! We would be so grateful! Here is a link to our school–
    http://www.lcics.org/

I am hoping to start up a blog this coming school year to show progress made!
    Thanks for the opportunity!

  30. ohmygracious… what lovely larrupin’ licks and looks to like…!!

  31. Celeste Kautz says:

gorgeous prize. This past year I stopped gardening. Last year my neighbor’s dogs got into the backyard and dug up my strawberries, I bought the wrong kind of tomato plants and ended up with a pitiful crop of cherry tomatoes when I had been wanting great big sandwich worthy tomatoes and my cauliflowers went straight to seed. This prize would be the push I need to get back out there and try again. Good luck to everyone who enters…

  32. I am dying to teach my son to garden, grow flowers and veggies, then teach him how to incorporate that into his meals and snacks! Would love to win. thank you for the opportunity.

  33. Kathy Blanco says:

I use every inch of my soil, and the front yard is my way of saying, I can sustain myself.

  34. Nicole Cannon says:

    I want to win BAD

  35. Jeavonna Chapman says:

This is a great contest for bringing awareness to important stuff – edibles are beautiful and front yard worthy. We need to use non-
GMO seeds and gardening is tasty fun. Best of luck to all the participants. Thaks for doing this promotion.

  36. This looks like a fabulous prize. I’ve been trying to add more vegetables to my gardening routine (one successful bell pepper this year!) and this would definitely be a boon. Either way, your blog always inspires me on new ways to garden and the book is on my Christmas list!

  37. So unfair people you’ve all been reading my mind..lol. Seriously my family would love to win we finally have a yard but its so much weeds growing forming a type of grass. With fall will come cooler temps & hopeful direction on transformation from grassland to edible landscape

  38. Edgar Flores says:

If I won the prize I would share the seeds with two community gardens that I volunteer at. We are currently in the planning processes of putting up an adobe structure to make a seed library. The seeds would be welcomed to the collection to be free to people. The books will also help expand my knowledge and share with it (and the books) with folks.

  39. I will be moving this fall and would love some seeds to get me started again in my new yard the added bonus would be the books and your cute little cartoon would look absolutely fabulous in my little garden area in my kitchen!

  40. WOO, YOU! Wait, did you mean for us to woo you or did you mean it like “yay you!” Well anyways, yay you! I love the book dearly and have read it from the front to back but would love to have a copy of my own… Andrea Bellamy’s book is the shiznit too!

  41. I would LOVE to win this! I started slowing with a few veg and herbs in my front yard and can’t wait for next year. Your book has been an inspiration! If I did win, I would, however, gift the book to my dear friend, Judy, since I already own a copy! Thanks!

  42. Barbara Bibel says:

Your books are wonderful. We can’t keep them on the shelf at our library. There are always reserves.

  43. I’m a long time gardener; Mom had me weeding her garden as a tot. One thing I know is there is always something new to learn. Would love your book!

  44. My house could certainly use some Supermodel curb appeal! Plus what a wonderful excuse to go outside instead of housework. Bonus would be to have your book as my guide! ;p

  45. Love to win this giveaway! I’m already planning on freaking out the neighbors for next year, with MORE edibles in the front yard! This would give me all winter to plan! And they couldn’t complain, because I’d have your book to make sure it still looks purty! :)

  46. Diana Gervits says:

I would so love to start a front yard edible garden! Great idea.

  47. I am SO not missing out on this! I am your BIGGEST fan and probably your long-lost sister…soooo..just sayin’…

    (LOVE this giveaway!)

  48. This package is lovely! I am in the process of making my front yard edible and my tomatoes are finally producing fruit, my cilantro makes the whole house smell like a cooking adventure and the basil makes me constantly hungry for tomato-basil melts. (: I’d love to get some more ideas!

  49. we’re planning on building some raised beds to grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs in, in our front yard this fall /next spring. We would LOVE to incorporate your suggestions and tips — I love your book concept – haven’t read it – but would love to have it !

  50. Good Afternoon,
I am so excited, an opportunity to tell someone my farm fetish! I do not have a farm of my very own (yet) and I am blessed enough to go visit and play in others farms. I am an Arizona transplant. And yes, I did find a way to have a garden in Phoenix. Was difficult and so much fun. My first garden as an adult and I had enough produce to sell at farmers markets (after my friends ,family and neighbors REFUSED ANY MORE VEGGIES) I love to play in the dirt and nurture seeds into plants. So needless to say when I moved to Iowa to a FARM I was estatic…..hmm..Nope….We were renting a REAL FARM HOUSE and could not plant, raise chickens, or anything. So after awhile we moved to a house in the rural town of Eldridge. I OPENED A YARN SHOP (YEAH 100% American Yarn )…But I still want a garden, dang it! So my wonderful landlady has agreed that I may plant till my hearts content on the piece of property i rent. (no chickens, tho) Since It’s August, my planting will begin in the spring. Which will allow me to fully plan my NEW Garden……on the side of the house. Lots of space for me.
Where we we? Oh yes, the contest,….I’d love to be a recipient of all the wonderful goodies. What would i do with them??? Oh my…I’d make 20 diagrams and possible layouts for the garden before deciding. And trellis for the beans…oh one must have flowers too….and ….and … Heck, I’d have a blast! Thank you for offering this contest. And allowing me to ramble. ;) Did i mention I have chicken envy too??? LOL Any chickens in that basket of goodies??????
